I got to Alaska on Christmas Eve 2003 driving an old, rear wheel drive car with my then 2 year old and 5 year old.  I am thankful I finally found the home I had been searching for.

I am a doula and own Cloud 9 Doula Services, a henna artist, a dog musher and tour guide for Muzzys Place Kennel, and the Chief GED Examiner for the Interior of Alaska.

I started this blog shortly before moving my family into a small, dry cabin north of Fairbanks. “Dry” means waterless.  We haul our water and have an outhouse.  Our shower is a camp shower in the corner of the bedroom and a Rubbermaid tote.  So in order to document my path of becoming more of who I want to be, I write.  As a single mom of two growing kids,

Some of my favorite pictures of my time here.

Almost catching some air.

Triple Lakes hike, Denali National Park

Handling for Eric Rogers, Yukon Quest, 2008.

Backpacking.

A rare family portrait.

Olivia’s first salmon.  She didn’t want to touch it while it was still in “fish” form.

Teaching Jordan to double sled.

Olivia the goldpanner.

Hi Ariel, You don’t have to be pregnant to get henna done. I’ll also email this to you to make sure you get it. I start individual appointments at $25 each. You can get a very nice henna for that amount. I come to you and henna you in your home (or the park, or a coffee house, where ever you’d like) so that you don’t have to drive anywhere after you get your henna so as not to disturb the paste when it is wet. I’ll email you my phone number. Just give me a call and let me know when and where.
    Thanks,
    Georganne
